Los Hermanos Capuchinos somos una Orden Religiosa que forma parte de la Familia Franciscana, concretamente una de las tres reformas surgidas de los frailes de San Francisco.

Los Franciscanos Capuchinos surgimos a partir de la experiencia de renovación de Fray Mateo de Bascio, Rafael y Ludovico de Fosombrone, en 1528. Tenemos por fundador al propio San Francisco de Asís, y por espiritualidad la espiritualidad franciscana.

En 1528 los Capuchinos fueron instituidos jurídicamente como "Frailes Menores de la vida eremítica", mediante bula de Clemente VII. Recibieron autonomía y dependencia similar a una provincia.
